Make sure you have the latest VIA 4in1 drivers (if you are running a VIA chipset) and have you been playing in your BIOS at all?

I have a serverworks chipset, so that's not the problem. I tried installing some x3dfx drivers and it still does the same thing. also, i just tested it out again. but this time instead of just freezing, it reset the bios. i remember happening once before.

it's an asus cur-dls. but it's from a gateway server. but the first few months, this never happened. it's just now doing it. i find that very strange.

i did just install another processor. could that have anything to do with it?

Hi, I got the exactly same problem, it freeze my Windows 2000 advanced server everytime I run a OpenGL apps or game. BIOS reset a couple of times. My OS is very very stable, it freezed only a few times since 1999. I don't know what to do with it now, I thought it's the problem with the VOODOO 5500, then I just wait for a GeForce 3 PCI availabe.
After read your post, it sounds like the MB is the problem.

I just use Direct 3d for now.

hehehe. geforce isn't all that great for pci. the pci bus is way to slow. the t&l needs a high bus rate for good effect, and i would assume that would be the same for G3.

anyways, I've found the solution! Those ****ers at gateway only put a 200 watt power supply in my case!!! since the voodoo 5 cards need an external power souce (besides the pci slot), the card wasn't getting enough power. so i plugged it into my neigboring computers power supply, and voila' it work perfectly!

I should have noticed it earlier. whenever my 12v power dipped below 11.75 (approx) it would freeze. I knew i bought a digital doc for something.

I hope this helps.

oh, and koriet, advanced server probably isn't the best OS for graphics.

hmmm, then I'm guessing 250 watts ain't gonna be enough???

I'm running a celeron (466), though I do have a lot of drives and such... 2 hd's, 1 burner, 1 scsi dvd drive, and I ran out of connectors for my zip

Power supplier

You got the goood piont for the power supplier, maybe that's the reason. I have 2 p933 processor, 1g memory, 2 scsi hard drive, cdr, dvd, zip, floppy, two network cards, sound card. everything runs very smooth except the OpenGL with voodoo. Also I'm going to put in a few hard drive in there, Any one kowns if there is enough power supplier???

Unhappy

I'm having the same problem. I have the Asus CUR-DLS and a Voodoo5 5500 PCI. The only thing is, my PSU is 750Watts. It's not possible that it could be a PSU issue as I have two 750Watt redundant/load sharing power supplies. This problem only occurs in Win2k. I've tried all of the drivers on x3dfx.com and 3dfx.com/downloads.htm.

Anyone know of any other issues that may be causing this?

Thanks in advance

Mark

The Voodoo 5 strong point was direct3d. It used to convert OpenGl calls into Glide.

I've found the best Voodoo5 drivers to be 1.04.00

Really? I thought the strong point was it's open gl. oh well, direct 3d has been working nicely.

Well, it locks up with any driver I use in quake3, RTCW, Max Payne, and Serious Sam. Strangely, it never locks up at the same place, as the sound repeats (skips?) until I do a cold reboot.

I was going to say to check your power supply when I first started reading this.

I would have thought 250W would be marginally enough to run it though. But that does sound like a lack of power.

My buddy bought an HP Pavillian recently and when he put in a Geforce2 it did the same thing. We pulled the power supply and those cheapskates only put in a 145W power supply from the factory! I didn't even know they made such small power supplys? Sheesh.
