CDRW dying?

I was wondering if anyone's had any similar experience...

I've a Yamaha 4416S, and lately it's been spitting out disks that can't be read by any other drives, except a particular Creative 12xsomething CDRW that my roommate has. The first 1/3 or so of the CDR can be read just fine by any drive, but it'd choke when asked to read the rest.

Probably time to get a new drive.

Don't believe it's the cables. Although if it was it'll probably be the power supply. Hrm.

Anyways, I've already ordered a 24/10/40 Lite-On.

Sounds to me like the laser is out of alignment (i'm no expert). Have you tried cleaning it?

yeah....it sounds like it needs to be cleaning....if your good at taking apart things......take it apart...and use a q-tip to rub the lens with some alcohol. (not the drinking kind... /me looks at sbp...i know what your thinking )

maybe even using some canned air to blow the dust away...

Good thing I didn't try that before ordering my new drive.

Ah well, I might as well go buy a can of compressed air tomorrow then. Thanks for all the responses, folks.
