486 laptop what can I do with it

I was given a 486 laptop with only 100 meg hd
NEC Ultralite Versa
it runs Windows for workgroups

what can I do with it ?
Can I run my GPS Street Atlas?
can it run Linux with I never used ?
HD to small for Norton Desktop
not to long ago

I just don't have the money for a new laptop yet

my 486 100 mhz comp runs win 95 fine. Heh, you can play Warcraft II on it perfectly and the old dungeon keeper.
Linux is not recommended with the 100mb HD.

You could use it as a console emulator: MAME, NESticle, etc.

I have one as well... I have 98 on it... 502meg hard drive...

I don't use it for much, but I want to get wireless netwokring so I can just use that to sruf in any room

if you have 2 pcmcia nics, you could make a firewall/router out of it...you can build a linux kernel that runs a firewall in about 2megs of space...so the 100MB HD isn't limiting you.

yeah, I'd use it as a word processor. Either that, or you could test out P.T. Barnum's theory about fools and sell it on ebay.

Of course, if you feel like tinkering-this is probably what I'd do- get a larger hard drive and a little more ram in it. Maybe load Linux on it after that.

hack the bejesus out of it!

- make a little mp3 device out of it (though the hard drive's a big limiter there)
- take it out of its casing and make a custom case for it
- create a ridiculously compact casing for it and the keys, mount it on the bathroom wall and get some wireless networking setup for surfing on the pot!

- make a GPS system out of it for the car

eh, just some ideas. check out slashdot.org sometime, the geeks there are amazingly innovative (once you get past their ceaseless proselytizing) and hack their stuff into some really cool things.

Ya, seriously, though. Somwhere along those lines. Make it an e-mail server so that you can have the email all in one place for multiple systems/OS's. Keep your favorites localized. Mod it so you can have an external harddrive array for storage.
