Does anyone know if there's actually any perfomance difference between error correcting and non-error correcting RAM? Also, am I correct when I say that most motherboards support ECC RAM?

If you plan to use your system as a server or a similar mission critical type machine, it is to your advantage to use ECC
otherwise, Just go with regular RAM. its not a so much a performace issue as it is a data reliability issue.
