Hey, this is my first time on this forum and I need some help with a new palm system I want to get. I have narrowed it down to 4 systems, and need help deciding ( here ). Any reviews of these, or suggestion from you guys through your personal experience. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I can't give you a direct response since I haven't used any of these PDAs. However, if you don't get the response you'd like here, you might want to try over in the PDABuzz Palm Platform Discussion Forums.
In the meantime, it would probably help others if you informed them what your primary purpose of this might be. If it's going to be a little bit more entertainment oriented, obviously, the Sony T415 looks most appropriate. However, if you don't like the proprietary nature of the Memory Stick format, you'll obviously want to avoid Sony PDAs. If the choice is between the Palm m125 and Palm m500 (and assuming you can afford them both), you'll enjoy the Palm m500 better. However, all of this information will depend on your needs. Good luck. ![]() |

Sorry about that, I am a senior in high school. This would be just for a kid that needs to be a little more organized. I have been around computers quite a bit, so I know my way around them. The format of the Sony memory stick does not bother me that much. This will be partly for my entertainment, not the main reason why I am getting this, mostly for there organizational qualities. I have worked for the past 2 and 1/2 years, So I have saved up enough money, aside from my Gas and Car payments, to afford a good laptop(graduation) and Palm system. Now if this helps any I will be going to college (at Purdue, for Aerospace Engineering), so I hope to get something that will be able to grow with me.

Consider a PocketPC. Much more versatile, expandable, and it also has great graphics especially for games.
![]() Trust me, I got one. ![]()

If you want to use it to keep organized, just get a pencil and a pocket calendar/organizer. Now if you want to play games...
go with the PocketPC.

Yup - PocketPC. Faster, more memory, more expandable, MP3 & full motion video capable, etc.
With the prices dropping the way they are, your best bet is probably the ipaq 3600 series, IMHO. |

OK, I used a Palm Vx up to 3 weeks ago when i crushed it, now i'm on an Ipaq. If you want to get organized absolutely go with the Palm platfrom, I suggest the sony's. If you want a little more spice, games maybe music/pictures go with a pocketpc. In the 2 years i had the palm i didn't even get close to filling up the 8 megs of memory it had, I also had no problems what-so-ever with it! It has a huge developer base with many good programs. The pocket pc, well i've filled up the 32 megs with a dozen programs and it has problems sync'ing sometimes but its funner. Its not as usable as the palm as far as getting organized goes and I'd take the Palm Desktop over Outlook any day of the week but i must say its nice reading books on the big display, watching music videos, listening to music etc.
As far as those four palms go, if you have the money go for the T610, its a little more than 300 bucks. The display alone is worth it. If not then go for the S320. Excluding the whole memory stick issue they're better values IMO. f Hope i didn't confuse you any more.

Question
Now when you say Pocket PC, do you mean an HP or an IPAQ? I assume either is a very good system. I have kind of shyed away from the HP, simply because of the price. I have the money, I just don't see myself dumping that kind of money in this. What about something like this . This is a little more in my price range.
But, I am really looking at the Sony t415 . Is this really a decent system? I am assuming that it is not an mp3 player. Any suggestions? |

PocketPC runs on the Compaq ipaq (the one in your link above would be a great choice), the HP Jornada, Casio, NEC, Toshiba, and even Audiovox now has a device. It all depends on the features you want and how much you want to spend. You can get some good info at http://www.microsoft.com/mobile/pocketpc/default.asp One tip I would give you - I notice that your links are all pointing to BestBuy. You can almost always get a better price elsewhere on the web - BB tends to sell at retail price most of the time, especially on more popular items like the iPaq. I can't comment too much on the Sony - I stopped using the Palm OS about a year and a half ago & haven't kept up. However, here's a (biased, from Microsoft) comparison of PocketPC vs. PalmOS - http://www.microsoft.com/mobile/pock...e_software.asp |

If the primary role of this device will be as a Personal Information Manager (PIM), I think any of the PalmOS devices will meet your needs. Since you mentioned the Palm m500, have you considered the Sony Clie N610C? However, if you have any interest in playing videos or games on it, you will be better served with a Pocket PC device. The Compaq iPAQ 3765 that you referred to is good especially with the current $50 mail-in rebate. However, you'll probably have some problems with games since it doesn't recognize simultaneous button presses. If you can overlook that, the Compaq iPAQs have some of the best Pocket PC deals going on now. ![]() |

For you people with the pocket PC
First off, I will not buy from best buy, they just had a website with the Units that I was looking at. And know for the pocket PC, does this come with software for "to do list"(or similar), and a "Contacts"?

Yup - contacts, to do, notes, e-mail, etc. You normally sync it with MS Outlook. |

Granted, you can use other programs for word processing and emails but that would mean shelling out more money for third-party converters or synchronization software. The significance of this will obviously depend on your current situation and the software you use. I just wanted to inform you about what you're getting into with the Pocket PC platform. ![]() |

Thanks everyone for the information you have supplied. I have pretty much made my decision, I am going with the The Compaq iPAQ 3765. I already use Outlook, Excel, and Word in all the word processing I do on my PC, so that is not a bad thing. I like the price of it, and the expandablity of it. Thank you for all the information you provided, I will have to stick around this board for a little longer. Now, for the next question, "Where to pick one up?" Best Buy has a decent deal with the $50 mail in rebate. Anybody else know where I could pick this up? Especially with the after-Christmas sales coming around the corner.
