antivirus problems -> clock skew??

I've heard a few people say that Antivirus software can be responsible for your computer losing time. Does anyone have opinions on this or know what is actually happening?

I really hadn't heard about that at all. But of course with XP's synchronizing clock, that shouldn't be a problem.

I have noticed clock skew on several occaisons on PCs running anti-virus software.

It seems that when the anti-virus software is set to monitor all file access and execution, a great strain is placed on the CPU at times, which can result in the skew of the system-tray clock.

If you are careful and don't do anything foolish (i.e. downloading suspicious attachments/files, etc), you should be able to disable the anti-virus background scanning and simply schedule routine scans.

Best of luck!
