Exclamation Floppy Disk Fail (40)

Just put together a computer everything works fine, but I get floppy disk fail (40). This is a new floppy drive, i've tried 2 different cables, could the floppy drive be bad. Does someone have any other suggestions that i can do.

The floppy drive sounds bad. Try the floppy drive out with a different system. Also try out a different floppy drive with the original system.

Was looking around on the net and some sites say it may be the controller on the motherboard is that possible?

maybe you are plugging in the floppy cable the wrong way? I know I get that exact error when I do that.

Yeah, try fliping the cable around... make sure you are matching pin1 with pin 1...

Oh, and it also happened to me once that it was actually the cable being incompatable... but if you've tried different cables, that's probably not it.

Take off the Bootup floppy seek in the BIOS.

yep flip cable around. red-stripe faces the power connector and make sure if the cable and MB have a "key" to follow that.

I had a floppy disk fail...I opened my case and it was just my cords loose...try checking that.
