Re: know what happened to Tualatin?

A friend of yours gave you? Man, why don't I have friends like that? Oh, and yeah, I was kind of expecting Intel to do that with the P3. They are getting creamed in the budget chip market. This will make things a little tighter, but from all of the reviews I've read, the celeys are still a notch below the Durons.

Sorry... do you mean to say that the "Celeron" now holds the power of the P3 that we've come to know?
I was a little confused by the post... yet intrigued. Are they going to stop making chips named "Pentium 3" and just call their value-market chip the "Celeron," regardless of the chip's specs? Dave. |

You know, Compgeeks might have one... I think they said one of their dual cpu mobos might support it. I thought one said that they supported up to 1.13 or 1.2 GHz Tualatin cpus... but you probably want to go faster than that, don't you?
Anyway, those could be had for alittle more than $50 shipped. And they said they had a 133 MHz fsb, so that might allow for some oc'ing. |

Okay, Chosen, I finally got a link to Compgeeks... But both mobos say that they only support up to the 1.13 P3s and 1 gig celeys... Don't know if it will be compatible.
http://www.compgeeks.com/products.asp?cat=MBB Here's the link anyway, although you are probably already there. ![]() |

You don't know how tempted I am for that 1.4 T-bird...
But I'm not really in a position where I can justify spending the money. My system is fast enough for my needs right now, and I'm on a fairly tight budget. Also, I'm not about to haggle for the price. I know what it's worth. ![]() Last edited by Ladogaboy : 12-31-2001 at 03:35 PM. |

On a related topic -
Anyone ever used a Powerleap converter? http://www.powerleap.com/Products/iP3T.htm They offer a 1.2Ghz Tualatin chip on a slot1 converter to upgrade PIII systems. I've heard some good things about this particular upgrade, but I don't know. I have a Dell XPS-T 600Mhz, and this would be a pretty cheap upgrade for me - here's a review of the Powerleap in a Dell - http://www.roberthancock.com/dell/plip3t/ What do you guys think? |

The Tualatin Pentium III was released too late but still would have embarrassed the Pentium 4 with its performance. So Intel decide to bury it. Intel priced the Tualatin Pentium III to make it unattractive to buyers and did not release it in any sort of numbers. Also, Intel cut the prices of the Pentium 4's to make Pentium 4's more attractive.
The Tualatin Pentium III was released in 1.133, 1.20 and 1.26 Ghz speeds. http://support.intel.com/support/pro.../sspec/p3p.htm A 1.133 version and the 1.26 Ghz are for servers. They sport 512KB L2 cache and will support dual-processor configurations. The Tualatin Pentium III is also used for mobility solutions, though that too will be changing later this year.
