Post Gainward gf3 ti450 (really need help) :)

hey there , i read ur review but have been confused by it somewhat. i read another review on the ti450 that had the memory down as 5ns. but after reading urs and looking on the madonion forums i have seen many people with a gainward gf3ti450 that have achieved very high o/c.

i would appreciate it very much if u could tell me if the card on this site is indeed a golden sample (high overclocker) or just a normal ti450 (if there is such a thing).

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatal..._Video_56.html

Gainward GeForce3 PowerPack !!! Ti/450 (AGP) (GX-004-GW)

Gainward GeForce 3 PowerPack !!! Ti/480 XP Golden Sample (AGP) (GX-003-GW)

i am thinking that the first one may not be such a good overclocker.... if this is the case could u tell me if the MSI G3Ti200 Pro-TD GeForce3 is a good overclocker

url for msi http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=30292

thankyou for ur help
much appreciated

Josh

C1arkie........how much is £171.30 is US dollars??? european cards work on english (U.S.) PC's, right???

i was all set on getting the Gainward ti/450 til i saw the ti/480 --that 3.8ns ram is very tempting....

it is not £171. there is vat on that@17.5%

so is £200

£200 * 1.6 = $320
£170 * 1.6 = $270

i just need to know if the ram speed on the gainward card is definately 4ns? and if gainward make a normal gf3 ti450 aswell as the goldensample, as i have only every seen golden sample reviews which say the ram is 4ns. but the gainward site has the card as having 4.5ns ram. so im really confused...

thx C1arkie.....jeez, for roughly $320, u may as well get a ti-500 rather than overclocked ti-200.

well, i'd trust that the gainward golden sample has 4.0ns ram. this site gave it a great review, not to mention saying it overclocks greatly; and anandtech called it the best ti-200 card for overclocking (http://anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=1581&p=25 -- this review also says the card has 4.0ns ram). thats good enuf for me, i'm going with this card

and for $160, u really cant beat that...

order a GF4 from this site...http://www.watford.co.uk/

The GF4 Ti4400 is $282 US and the Ti4600 is $389. You can order it early...these are the gainward cards too.

hey guys

i really appreciate the help. i think i will prob go for the gainward gf3 ti450. the gf4 mx's will be slower than an overclocked ti200 (less filrate, etc) and the gf4ti4400 and ti4600 are too expensive. and not really needed.

thanks

Josh

I did the same thing. See...DirectX 9.x is around the corner...to buy a DirectX 8.x card now at that price is stupid. Even when DX8 is not used much. My suggestion is for you to pickup a cheap GF3 and hold until DX9 and DX9 compatable cards come around. Then you should be able to get a great DX9 card that will kick some serious butt in DX8 games. when DX9 comes up DX8 will really be pushed to the limit and that new DX9 card will smoke in DX8 and be at the same pricepoint as current GF3 cards are now :-)

good point, but one could always say that w8ing for the next generation of cards is pointless as there will always be a new card just around the corner - especially with nvidia as strong as they are atm . i was under the impression the the gf4 line of cards will not support dx9 (gf4 cards being nealry out and dx9 being a while off).

a gf3 ti200 will be able to run game for a long time. even the new unreal 2 2002 test that has been shown on anadtech ran very well. especially when u consider that the demo was a scene taken from the one of the outdoor maps and hence would probably represent the most the cards would get pushed in the game. that and the fact that the code will be optimized and the speed improved.

though dont take my word for it

£150 is a god price for a gf3 and as i currently own a v5 5500 im sure i would be very happy with what it offers. thanks for your input tho

the GF4 will be DX8 compatable. probably the GF5 which supposedly is being build by the ex 3dfx employees using the technology from the rampage chipset that 3dfx was going to release after the V5 will be Nvidia's DX9 card. I'd say wait for that because it will be much better.

You see when DX9 is released nobody will use it except a few games. Therefore DX8 will be the primary platform aside from openGL. And if you have a DX9 card you can not only handle DX9 games and the DX9 specific features but DX8 will really kick ass on it. At $300+ I don't think getting a Gf4 is very smart because DX9 will be such a leap that you'll probably be wanting to upgrade right away just to support some of the better features. Similar to pixel shader 1.4 in DX8 which was far more advanced than DX7.

i think i'll get a gf3 ti450 for now. as my v5 is not coping to well with the new games taht are being released. and when the gf5 comes out i will get that. in a year or so...

the rampage design...? didnt that use more than one chip?? nvidia will cards will rock if they use 3dfx's texchniques to get more power...

still, would have been better if 3dfx released the rampage and were around. shame really ...

thanks for all your input again.
