Bad sectors on HD

What do Bad sectors actually do? The one thing I notice so far is that I am getting alot of windows blue screens is there any way to fix bad sectors?

Scandisk can repair the bad sectors, but it can't repair what is causing those bad sectors. It's probably time for a new hard drive.

FYI - Scandisk doesn't actually repair bad sectors, it just marks them as bad so the system doesn't try to write to them anymore. Too many bad sectors & your drive space gets smaller & smaller.

Of course, this isn't as much of an issue with a 40GB HD as it was with a 340MB one...

You should probably also download the drive diagnostics from the drive MFR - that will tell you if your drive is about to die.

Yeah, that's true. Haha, a friend of mine once had a 3.2 gig hard drive with just over 2.5 gigs of working space because of bad sectors.

WOW it's not that bad I have a maxtor 4 gig with less than 2 megs of bad sector. The damm thing is slow!

man i have a stupid amd k62-450 running on that hd. I have no more money for it (and also it's a K6 the whole system is a giant paperweight)
