Bandwidth Whodunit

I have Verizon Dsl and i've had it fer alittle under a yr, and lately i've been losing connection for brief periods. when i mean brief im talking about for 2-3mins. it might not seem like such a big thing, but when your dling something and you get disconnected it gets annoying. and im constantly dling something, so when im left with partial files, and the other user is nowhere to be found i get mad.

Now this brings me to a thinkin. wut exactly is causing the problem. most might think its the verizon service, but i havent had that problem before......BEFORE I HAD THE DSL ROUTER! but could it be the router? or maybe it was the network card, i mean i did have a history of problems with it. i used to have trouble connecting to the network when i turned on the comp. but i hastly solved the problem by never turning the comp off . now after goin through all this im left right back to where i started. disconnected from the server. thats where you guys come in. hehe heres the stuff i have.

Router - SMC7004ABR
Problematic Network card - Netgear FA311
Verizon Basic Service

thnx if you can help.

you know... i have the same exact problem, but my ISP is dslextreme.com Sometimes I would lose sync, usually around 6-8 p.m. at night. It really gets annoying. I have the same router you have... well almost, I have the AB model. I have one of those cheap network cards too, but you know, I don't think it's the network card. I think it's either the wiring from our houses to the CO or their service just plain sucks. I'm on a PacBell line though.

I was looking at my DSL modem last night, and I realized that i gets pretty darn hot... does heat have anything to do with this? I can probably cut out the top and stick in a fan or something...

it doesnt seem to be a heating problem. mines isnt that hot. i think it might be the routers connection settings. but i cant get into it, ill reinstall windows and try it again. if not i think it might be the verizon service.

ehy you might want to check if your firmware for the router is updated. i call tech support and they said it might be becuase of that. i seriously doubt it but i hope it is.

ps. i really should have posted this in the tech support forum
