anyone know of a PCI card that has both USB 2.0 AND Firewire ports in it?

You are correct that Adaptec makes a Firewire/USB2.0 combination card. I was just reading about it somewhere last night. And I think it had more ports and was less money than the one linked above.

Dopey - that's the card I was thinking of. I seem to remember seeing it at about $80 somewhere. I liked the 4 + 3 ports it offers.

The DuoConnect one is sweet; it got a 9 and the "Kick Ass Product" award from Maximum PC, so you know it must be good.

Whenever possible, you should attempt to use Firewire instead of USB. Each Firewire device contains it own processor and can therefore perform processing at the local level, whereas USB relies on the CPU for its processing and can be a drag on your resources.

In theory, 2 Firewire devices can be attached, and communicate with each other, without the need for a pc in-between - i.e. attach your Firewire camera to your Firewire printer and your photos are printed automatically, although I have yet to see this function advertised anywhere for any 2 devices. By comparison, if you took 2 USB devices and attached them together without a PC in-between, nothing would ever happen, except maybe the collection of dust.

Just my 2 cents...
