Intellimouse Optical keeps changing to generic Intellimouse settings.

Aggh!
Running on a clean install of Win98 SE for gaming.
I have a PS/2 MS Intellimouse Optical Mouse ( the one with the 2 extra buttons, one on each side. ) Everything works fine until a couple of reboots. Then the mouse is detected as a regular Intellimouse with no xtra buttons. Futhermore , on the drop down menu, I cannnot change the mouse settings to Intellimouse OPtical because it simply is not listed amongst the choices.

I have removed it, reinstalled it. Went to Safe Mode and tried it again. To no avail.

I am using Intellimouse Version 4 drivers.
PC, 900 Mhz, ASUS Mobo, over 700 Mgs of memory with Win 98 SE.

Please , any one be so kind to help.

you're using the grey explorer mouse, not the intellimouse optical. The I-mouse optical is a white, two-button-with-scroll mouse. The explorer is the 5-button mouse.

I have the Intellimouse Optical which is white with silver. It has 5 buttons like the explorer. Still trying to get this sorted out. Anyone know where I can get 4.1 Drivers for it?
