bye 3dfx

And so 3dfx becomes part of history with the shutdown of http://www.3dfx.com for good on February 19.

Yes, they were the ones who brought 3d acceleration to the masses but rested on their laurels too long.

Remember the first time sticking in that 3d card and playing a 3d accelerated game?

Its the completion of the end of an era.

My first 3d was a RealVision Flash3d bought in mid-1997.

The first 3d accelerated games I played were GLQuake followed by the 3dfx version of Tomb Raider.

The next year I got in on the Buycomp Monster 3d II deal. Talk about a game pack-Battlezone, Monster Truck Madness 2 and Incoming. You don't see that anymore.

Sniff, sniff, went through all phases of Voodoo: Voodoo,Voodoo Rush,Voodoo 2, Voodoo 3200,Voodoo 3500 TV (still being use in 2 systems, and Voodoo 5500 granted they were all free but still good cards at the time save for the last flavor of Voodoo... When Nvidia and ATI tromped 'em.

Pioneers are the only ones with arrows in their backs...

And the next company to follow 3dfx is Nvidia. Yes I said it. I will say that ATI will be the next king hehehe.

I've tried nvidia (gainward geforce3) and the 2d quality is a mark lower than 3dfx and ATI, and while 3d gives mad FPS - it doesnt look as good. The colour representation isn't as good..sticking with my voodoo 5 until I see something from nvidia that tops the quality of 3dfx. ATI needs better driver support or else I would have already switched....

I had ati rage pro, then voodoo 2, voodoo banshee, voodoo 3, voodoo 5, gainward geforce 3, and back to voodoo 5.
