What's your total hard drive capacity?

I have 80+80+30+30+20+14.4 for a total of 254.4Gb

Are we talking one system, or all systems combined?

If I count all my systems I currently have here (6 total) it would be:

40+40+30+20+10+10+10+10+10+9+6+6=201GB

Hmmm, okay.. lets see..

Current system I'm on: 10GB+45GB = 55GB
Others:
- 45+75+75 = 195GB
- 8+60 = 68GB
- 60GB
- 20GB
- 25GB
- 10GB+8GB = 18GB
- 210MB+420MB+1.2GB = 1.83GB
- 10MB (XT BABY!)
** and a few more I forget the sizes

So that amounts to 442.84GB. But looking to buy an additional 2-5 HD's 100GB+ each, pref similar.. my downloading habits is hurting my checkbook

Since we're talking about hard drives....

Does anyone here use extra cooling for their additional hard drives?
Esp for 7200rpm drives.

I recently bought 2 IBM Deskstar 60GXP (7200rpm) drives for 220 bucks off newegg.

Now recently a friend tells me they tend to overheat, does anyone know anything about this and any solutions???

I have 3 HD's running in my system. 2 IBM 75GXP 75GB's, and a IBM 45GB. I'm just have an extra fan blowing straight at it. I've felt these suckers when they're on, they do get quite hot. But I've had several IBM drives in the past, and none have fried on me yet.

Regarding fans....

So for extra hard drives can anyone here recommend some good fans or any case fan will do? Maybe I'm being anal, but I definitely don't want my hard drives to fry.

Yup, thats the exact same one I have. If you wanna spend more, the water cooled one on the deals page uses the same case, with some mods. But all I gotta say is... This case is HEAVY!

In my main system, I have 90 (raid 0) + 80 (backup drive)

Second (kids') system, 30

I've got a 30 drive sitting around, waiting for me to decide what to do with it. Also and 8.4 doing nothing.

I still have a 340 MB for a 486 system hanging around...

But usable hard drive space... 3+6+20+30= 59

No wonder I burn a lot of CDs...

40+40+40+40+30+30+27.3+27.3+27.3+20.4+13+10+8.4+8.4+8.4=370.5GB

The 8.4GB and 10.GB drives are 5400RPM ATA33.
The 13GB is 54000RPM ATA66.
The 20.4GB and 27.3GB drives are 7200RPM ATA66.
The 30GB and 40GB drives are 7200RPM ATA100.

I was going to get rid of the smaller drives (<13GB), but they're perfect for installing Linux on one of my older machines.

A related question: How many computers do you have, and what speed are they?

IBM XT 4.7MHZ
80486 DX2/66 (3)
Pentium 100
Celeron 500 (2)
Dual Celeron 500
Thunderbird 1.3GHZ

Total: 9

The Pentium 100 and slower machines are just sitting around doing nothing. I may buy a motherboard for a Duron 750 that I've got sitting around. Then I've got enough sparts to build another system. I used to have a Cyrix MII300 and Celeron 500, but the motherboards went to motherboard heaven.

I don't remember how fast the other ones are. But there are spare parts all over the place for me too. Already donated one or two to schools, and gave away to friends to use for college.

Hehe. . . if you think that one is heavy, I got the antec sx 1240. The thing will give me a hernia soon if I have to move it.

If you cough up $2 more.. you can get the aluminum ones. I'm running the vantecs.. they work fine.. Just attach to the bottom of the HD for good cooling.
