PDA memory expansion

I have a Handspring Edge and I'm looking into different memory paths. They have adapters for CompactFlash, SM and SD/MMC. Which one is better and is the SM and SD/MMC format the same?

thanks

The better one is the one you can get for the least cash, of course!

Memory prices on flash cards have come down dramatically in the past 6mo or so, so it doesn't matter too much, but I would recommend Compact Flash rather than SmartMedia or the MMC (yes, they are different cards). CF comes in a lot more sizes than SM, all the way up to 1GB+ for a type II MicroDrive. SM is limited to 128MB still, I believe (may be higher now). MMC isn't really catching on very well, so cost on those cards are still higher.

I have the Memplug for my Handspring Visor. It uses smartmedia cards - I typically use 64Meg cards for storing ebooks and stuff. They also have a nice backup utility included as well.

Considering the fact that PDAs are just now going to 16M, you still have a portable 64M card you can swap with other cards (I have 2 for my visor) to expand your storage capability. Remember that you can't run directly off the card - the program or file has to be moved to main memory first. You can think of it as a large floppy for your PDA.
