AMD helps everybody. The provide a superior product that benefits AMD users and competition (which is the only thing Intel reacts to -- not the customer) that helps those blinded by Intel's marketing.

Except for my notebook (which was a really good deal) I haven't had an Intel since my 486. I've had about a dozen systems since then with no compatibility or reliability issues. As an Alpha/Omega I still have a K6 233 running on a Asus T2P4 board along with the 2100+ on the MSI KT3 Ultra -- plus a few in between.

I've used Cyrix, AMD, and Intel chips. My current main computer is an AMD 1.3 Thunderbird. I have five other computers (Celeron 500, Dual Celeron 500, Pentium 100, AMD K62/500, AMD K62/450). All these computers are pretty much at the end of their upgrade path. They can only be upgraded to the next higher speed processor, then that's it.

I have an Abit BH6 motherboard that finally died, which I'll probably replace with a AMD chip and motherboard. I have no bias against either company (Cyrix is no longer a player), it just depends on what I need the computer to do and sometimes how much the motherboard and processor cost.

We can thank AMD for making Intel wake up. Without AMD, Intel would've had a monopoly (sound familiar?) and charged whatever they wanted. I also think that chip speeds wouldn't be what they are now without a little competition.

My next big computer purchase will probably be a dual AMD processor system.

I don't think this'll stop anything though - the better you idiot-proof a system, the more impressive the idiot becomes.

Cyrix was a little ahead of their time in their labeling of chips. My Cyrix MII300 was actually clocked at 233MHZ. Although I don't think their chips actually were as powerful as they claimed. The motherboard my chip was in died, but I've still got the chip as a paperweight.

The more things change the more they stay the same.

Years ago Cyrix, AMD and a few others got together and made up this standard to say what would be the equivalent Intel cpu to their cpu's. Basically it was a bunch of smoke trying to make their crummy cpus appear faster than they really were and trying to make it seem like their cpu's outperformed Intel cpu's.

And yes Cyrix sucked.

And you think because a company has more money or is worth more, then it is better?? Have you ever heard of Microsoft?

If money were not that big of an issue I would spring more for the intel chips. . . but since I like to eat and do other things, AMD is more realistic.

Not in it for the games eh, Spigs? Except for quake3 AMD is much better in your system for gaming, plus it is cheaper.

Ya, let's not go there. It is just like Western Digital. They used to suck, now their drives are pretty damn good.
