My score on 3dmark : P

............ 6282
I know its not a good score but im on my way. 1st time i got 52xx.
current system specs:
-via P4X-266 mobo
-P4 1.7 mhz @1717mhz thats what the score said.
-512 DDR generic ram w/ heatsinks, pretty blue heatsinks.
-Visiontek GF3 ti200 @ 190/475
-generic hd
-250wt ATX mid tower
I use powerstrip to oc the card, dramatic to help with my ram and close everything else for testing. One run at those settings. After i set it up right i'll loop the test and find where i can consistantly run the card safely.
I ordered a crystal orb for the card. Does anyone know how good the blue OEM ram sinks are? Should i replace them and with what kind of heat sinks? The card got hot but ram just got warm.
I have a thermaltake volcano on the cpu and i need to remount it cuz i used too much of that arctic stuff. Haven't changed any cpu settings yet and wont till i replace case and remount or change cooler. Should i use a different cooler or can i do some ocing w/ this cooler?
Things im getting:
-New 300 wt ATX
-case cooling
Looking for a decent 40gig+ HD(maybe the 40 WD at compgeeks).
Any thoughts or advice is welcomed.
-jel
ps: This is my 1st real venture into overclocking and it's good fun! That 3d test is very cool.

CF,
I got a Via mainboard P4X-266(no A) made by via. Running det 28.32. I got Rivatuner and GTU, but havent tried them yet. I tried coolbits but it wouldn't run cuz the missing file. I read it was a common occurance when running the same setup as mine. I'm happy w/ powerstrip(for now).

Today my new 300watt case and crystal orb will come. I gotta get some artic silver stuff. I bought some similiar stuff from Frys but i dont think its the same.
Still need a decent HD. "SHOW ME THE DEAL!!!" EXP: $50 WD 40gig 7200 ;8)

I'm going to some more testing. BTW, what tweaker do you use and why?
I bought some generic DDR Ram, should i get another 512 stick or should i start buying good ram? $109+tax for 512DDR 2100 or $69+tax/shipping for 256DDR 2100 crucial?

put ram sinks on card. Salvaged Thermaltake blue aluminum pieces. using "arctic alumina" dont know how good it is but hopefully it works well.
need more cooling, tempted to try the blue orb until i clear this up with access micro. ( blue orb = sux )
so i guess ill just wait.

thought i fried the card!
Funny no burnt smell. I changed all setting back and still funny lines. Took apart cooler and ram sinks. Cleaned that junk off the cooler, added artic illumina, clamped cooler back on. Put sinks back on, reinstalled and voila - good to go. Nvidia makes a great reference and visiontek does alright with it.

Still getting no reading for FSB. Does anyone know if i have to change a setting to my Via board. It has a FSB setting but I can't access it. Hopefully i dont have to return the cpu back to frys. p4 1.7 supposed to be 400 FSB.

That's a pretty good score on your system! I should have gotten the GF3 Ti or R8500 instead of my R7500 but my score is not that bad either for a $90 video card ($600 system)!

Havent thought about it till bach brought it up but here is my total cost so far.
Visiontek GF3ti200 64mg card $125.xx open boxed and $30 rebate BB.
Via mobo and P4 1.7Ghz CPU $189+tax frys.($205)
Ram 512 DDR pc2100 $109+tax frys.($118)
300 watt ATX tower and Crystal orb cooler $62 shipped access micro.
HD and floppy from old system.
HP CD writer from old system.
52x cd player free from one of last years gotapex/staples deals.
TT Ram sinks $11
TT Volcano cooler$17
Artic alumina $4 =
around $542.00 total.

CF, I'll run quake demo after I put my crystal orb on, can't afford to risk burning anything out. I'm getting close
Anyone know anything about how the FSB works with the Via mobo and P4 chips? I still don't understand why i'm not getting a reading on it.

P4 1.7@1.83 210/500 = 688x (+20 points )
Turned the card down a bit and with some more fans things are a little cooler.
Still no orb.
I need to learn more about making things stable. Havent adjusted the voltage yet but if I'm carefull i think ill be able to make some decent runs.
Better cooling, new Ram or HD, case mods ? Decisions decisions.

-FSB@111
-P4 1.7@1.891
-ti200@228/530 using Riva tuner now. its the best IMO.
-pc2100 DDR 266@294mhz
-ddr timing 2 2 3 7
I need to swap out my ram for 2700 333mhz+ ram. Everything is oc'd thru the FSB, I need faster ram to run it higher. If the system can handle 130+FSB than the DDR will be running around 333mhz+ and the cpu will be at around 2.2ghz. I'd like my gaming setup to be able to run 8000 scores. Higher scores if set for 3dmark.

ps: has anyone seen the new Xabre video cards? Its the 1st with true 8'x agp. 250 core and 500 memory! That opens a whole lotta possibilities. If that card comes out this year, I might just have to pass on the new nvidia cards and set up one of those for gaming/video/etc. www.xabre.com

Nice going.

Rivatuner is my favorite tuner too.

The Xabre are going to be a good performing value card. Sort of like the Kyro 2. Personally I want a higher performing videocard. Anyways we'll have to see how SiS does with compatability and drivers.

Fsb 118 is really unstable so far, i need to adjust some settings. The ram is rated at 333 cas 2 so hopefully system wont have anymore ram problems. Card will run at 228/535... or so.
I think at 120 fsb and 228/530 will make 8000 scores. Might need to get a 1.6a cpu to reach the full potential of system.

trying out the fuzzy logic3 overclock utility from msi.
118 fsb is where i put it on the fl3 setting.
1996mhz
not sure bout ddr mhz(314+?)
ram timing is 2 2 2 6
card 229/530
score 7986!
madonion results showing 100 fsb but since i can only oc through fsb and my cpu is 300mhz faster than its rated speed than it has to be like 118 or so. Was able to surf and open multiple windows and utilities w/ cpu@2043mhz. At that speed opened the 3dmark and it would close 5 seconds after starting test.
card is solid i added a fan underneath it and i think it helps.
i think i'll look for some other bios tweaker and im officially in the market for a 1.6a P4.
Someone in my family needs a computer and that dell with the 1.6 looks pretty good. Maybe i'll trade chips, they'll be a 100mhz faster and i'll have a better oc'er.
or maybe not

8603

3dmark2001se: 8603, all but final test 17(gotta buy it i think).

I think my card is maxed. Hoping to get core speed higher(229) but 530+ memory is better for performance.

Had the xms2700 at 360 mhz(180!). settings at c2 fast 1T. Running at 3000 speeds w/ no voltage adjustments. That was probably max for those timing settings.

I have to connect some pins to get higher voltage to my cpu. I figure 1.75volts at 2.45/2.5xGhz and I'll try to break 9000.

After that H2O cooling er.. or maybe not.
