Getting a HDD. Which one to get?

I'm looking for a hard drive that is reliable, 7200 rpm, decent price and not have huge storage space.

The HDD will be used in home linux system so 10~20GB would be efficient enough.

What brand of hdd would you guys recommend? If possible, please list its approx. price. Thank you very much.

since the price of a 7200 20gb is nearly the same as a 30gb, id get a 30gb maxtor, western digital is fine, ibm of that space area are pretty good but pricey.

I've been using Maxtor drives for the past 3 years with no problems. On pricewatch.com the cheapest you can get for a 20gb(ATA100 and 7200)Maxtor is $60.

I am real happy with my seagates. I'd also recommend Maxtor for budgets. Stay away from Western Digital, I've had a lot of problems with them and friends too. But they are good at getting you a new hard drive if its under warranty, however that is no fun thing to lose your data.

I've had a good Maxtor and a bad Maxtor

When I bought my 40G two years ago, it failed within 48 hrs. Staples replaced it I've had no problems since. I guess it's a good thing when a HD fails quickly...before you rely on it. Altogether, I've been happy with my Maxtor (7200, ATA100).

I have used IBM in my Athlon 700Mhz and AXP 1700+ without any problem yet! I heard lots of IBM problems from other pple but luckily it hasn't happened to me!

I've had Maxtor in all my systems and the experience with Maxtor is somewhat mixed. I got 2 out of 8 hard drives went bad after 2 years. That's why I came here to seek for answers.

Since most people still recommend Maxtor, I'd give it another chance. Thanks for the inputs, guys.
