Yeah from my experience (very little) amd boxes have a more responsive feel in the os but. . . when it comes to audio/video working, the p4 is just a leeetle bit faster. But alas I don't have an extra $400 or so to spend more on a comparable intel box so. . . f*#@$#@ it.

I have 1.33 Ghz tbird and also a Pentium 4 1.6A system overclocked to 2.2Ghz currently. Have to admit I'm not impressed by the Pentium 4 performance compared to the tbird.

I ain't the only one who feels this.

Getting another chipset might help since sometimes things don't work together like they should.

This "infinite loop" happens across chipsets and videocards so its an XP problem.

Let us know the results {performance and problems} with the P4X266A board.

I'm using Intels 845D chipset with DDR under Win2000 with no problems here.

Re: a plausible reason why the P4 still feels slower than the T-Bird

That is a plausible reason for sure...

Yup, I'm sticking with AMD now...

I have a :
AMD Athlon T-Bird - 1.4 @ 1.575
512MB DDR running at 300MHZ FSB
VisionTek GeForce3
23.11 Detonator Drivers
20gig 7200 RPM Maxtor HD
ABIT KR7-RAID Motherboard
16x DVD
24/10/40x Plextor CD-RW
SB Audigy Platinum
SMC 1255 NIC

And I clock faster in everything than a P4 2ghz with the same hardware and drivers (obviously except for motherboard, memory, and CPU).

So im happy with my AMD for now.
