DVD-RW Drives

Hello.

I am looking to purchase a DVD recorder for business purposes and would love to get some feedback from people out there that may own drives now and see what positive or negative experiences you have had.

Thanks in advance.

Buy the most expensive one you can afford, and don't buy the old HPs.

Thanks for the feedback on the HP's.

As far as your price comment goes are you assuming biggest ticket is best or do you have some experience with the higher end drives?

Just saw a Pioneer today at http://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invtid=DVR-A04 is this anything you or anyone has seen?

Thanks again.

Here is a page that compares DVD-RW and DVD+RW.

I know Apex uses the Sony 2.4x/8x DVD+RW and 12x10x32 CD-RW Combo Drive and he's really picky on what he puts in his computer. There was a deal on it from Dell Small Business for $331.72 before... So you might want to wait and see if the deal comes back.

Thank you Leon.

That is exactly the type of response I was seeking.

Thanks again for the information.

Unfortunately, I cannot seem to locate the product at Dell's site. Any idea if it was a one shot deal?

It's been my experience that the Pioneer DVD-RW drives are the best ones on the market right now. The -RW format has a much higher compatibility rating with set top DVD players and older DVD-ROM drives.

Unfortunately the -RW vs. +RW looks like it's gonna turn out like the Betamax vs. VHS did before I can remember. -RW is the better format, but +RW has the backing of HP (and now, presumably, Compaq) as well as Microsoft.

If you're looking for the best results now, go with the Pioneer drive, but if you want future compatibility, I'd say there's no choice but to pick up one of the +RW drives (Sony, HP, etc).
