not sure which fan to use with my xp 2000+
right now i've got one of those orb fans that sits on its side. it's got this copper tube that runs from the bottom to the top. i tried looking for a pic but i can't find one. it's doing an okay job on my 1700+ as my system does hang once in awhile if i'm gaming.
my question is, the retail 2000+ comes with a pretty good fan and i wasn't sure if i should chuck the orb or go with the one that amd sends with it's cpu. |

I say, use the HS/fan that ships with the CPU... if you still have problems with your system hanging, then try another cooling solution.

If it fries with the retail fan and heatsink, its under warranty. If you replace it for aftermarket, you may possibly void your retail warranty.

Yep, sometimes AMD is a PITA about replacing retail cpu's under warranty

thanks a lot for all your inputs.
what i've done is test the two coolers and it seems that the retail fan doesn't push as much air as the side orb fan. does anyone know how many degrees (c or f) this 2000+ should be? thanks again. |

forgot to mention this also, i also changed cases.
the one i have now is a antec server case wannabe. i've got a raidmax 400w powersupply and i was wondering if that is enough. this is what i've got in there. xp 2000+ a7v266-e 3 40 gig 7200s floppy 16x pioneer dvd 24x10x40 lite on sb live 5.1 10/100 card and i'm not sure what the actual size of the fan is, but the standard ones you can put in the front of the case. 92mm? i've got 5 of those on the case, 2 on the powersupply, and a cpu fan. is there a way to add this up? thanks again |

Well, 400 watts should be fine for what you have in there.
I'm not sure what you are asking about the fans, though. ![]() |

with the components i listed and the many fans i have, 400w power supply should be enough, you say?
