I don't think this'll stop anything though - the better you idiot-proof a system, the more impressive the idiot becomes.

Talking Does size really matter?

I just added 80G and even doing video editting, I only use about 50G at any time.

Like the good man said...size doesn't matter...it's what you do with it that counts.

8.4 + 8.4 + 8.4 + 10.0 + 13.0 + 20.4 + 27.2 + 27.3 + 27.3 + 30 + 30 + 40 + 40 + 40 + 40 + 80 + 80 = 530.4

I think the more important question is what percentage of empty space to total drive space you have. Right now I'm sitting pretty good (about 35%) since I don't have the 80GB drives in a computer. I'm building a MP3 server/streamer with these drives as storage.

heh, except for your networked drives.

mine is 3 120GB drives in a RAID 5 (240GB) + 120GB + 45GB(i think this is starting to fail). = 405GB.

According to what it says on my system
45GB = 42.9 (14.9GB free) = 28GB
240GB = 223GB (50.9GB free) = 172.1GB
120GB = 111GB (57GB free) = 54GB

= 254.1GB taken up
-------
376.9GB total space

Percentage of space taken up = 67.4%

Of course, now that I think of it, I could use all 480 gigs, if I had it...

When I record TV on my computer, it saves it in uncompressed AVI (best quality for recording). My 30 gig drive only holds about 25-30 mins of video.
