I hate onboard video... (long)

I am running my computer off of this Asus motherboard that has onboard video. It's an AGP 24MB Nvidia Aladdin TNT2. It runs ok, but I wanted something different. I bought a PCI graphics card just to test out and hold me over until I bought a new system. I went to the bios and set the setting for the graphics card to "PCI", it was set on "Onboard AGP", exited and shutdown. Then I installed the card and hooked it up. When I turn the power on, I get nothing, just a black screen.

The thing is, even with the setting switched to PCI, I can take the PCI video card out, hook the monitor into the onboard video card port and the computer will start up and function normally. Am I missing something in the disabling process? For some reason it won't let me use the PCI graphics card. So I took it back and was thinking possibly I screwed up the graphics card.

It might also be the PCI slots that are failing. I only have three of them. If I run my Creative SBLive! sound card, modem, and lan card at the same time, the system hangs in the start up. If I take one of them out, the system is fine. So I had to take the sound card out and run my speakers through crappy onboard sound whilst keeping the modem and lan card in there. I also removed everything but the video card from the PCI slots and tried that but it didn't work. Is there a setting where I can tone down the PCI slots? Is the IRQ too high? Is that possibly why the video card wouldn't run and it fails with three devices? Or maybe the top PCI slot is too fast for any of the three original devices I had and everytime I try to run one in that slot it crashes the computer? I don't get it.

I don't see you missing anything in the disabling process.

The SBLive is picky about sharing an irq.

If your PCI slots are failing thats not a good sign. Time for a new mobo.

The PCI slots are running at the same speed (33Mhz}.

There is a certain number of IRQ's available to be assigned to various parts. It may be possible to assign IRQ's in the bios.

I checked in the Bios for anything IRQ related and this is all I could come up with....

Onboard Ir Port- 3E8h/Com3
Ir Port Mode- IrDA
*Ir Port IRQ- 3

*The 3 can be changed to 4, 5, 9, 10, and 11 but I have no idea what is does... Guess it is time for a new motherboard...
