Unable to get PC to run after attempted upgrades

Help! I am unable to get my PC to run after I attempted to upgrade my harddrive and CD-ROM. Everything powers up, but I do not get video (the monitor is not receiving a signal) and the floppy drive doesn't activate. The CD and my CD burner lights alternate on and off. I've even replaced my motherboard and CPU (ECS K7s5a and 1.33 Thunderbird)so that's not the problem. I've also swapped memory (128MB PC2100 DDR) and still the same problem. I've also put back the original harddrive too. TIA.

If you are not even getting a video signal, then it shouldn't have anything to do with the hard drive. You should be getting a signal before the hard drive starts to power up.

Sorry I meant that the monitor is still in sleep mode. Everything powers up but doesn't get to the floppy drive (harddrive, cd-rom, floppy drive) it seems to hang when it gets to the cd-rom and burner.
TIA

have you tried tightening your video card? i just upgraded a whole bunch of crap in my system and i guess i loosened the card somehow. i wasn't getting a signal to my monitor either.

my two cents. but then again, you've probably tried that.

Well, what I mean is, the hard drive will not affect whether or not you see anything on your monitor. In order to show something on your monitor, only the Motherboard, CPU, Videocard, and Ram need to be functioning properly... well, the PS too...

Even though those devices are getting power, it doesn't mean that the other components are functioning properly. How many alternate parts do you have? What I would do if I were you: Pull EVERYTHING. Install only the ram, cpu (and obviously Heatsink/fan), and videocard. Hook it up to your monitor and see if it posts. If it doesn't, you've narrowed your search down to 5 things. PS, ram, cpu, videocard, motherboard.

I'll try the 5 things only approach to narrow things down.

Do you have the Master and Slave settings correct for the hard drive and CDROM?

Question

Have you been getting any beep codes when you attempt to boot up?

Thanks. Yes I checked and rechecked the settings for the HD and CD so that's not it.

No beep codes.

Is the Motherboard the only thing you haven't swapped out?

I had that problem with the computer I set up for my kids. I put a 1000 Tbird on my older kt7a mobo. My new practice. If in doubt reset the cmos. The computer I upgraded wouldn't do anything after I put the mother board in the only way I got it to do anything is to jump the cmos. And it booted fine after that. Of course I had to reset my bios the way I like it. But anyway it may help you or maybe not. Thats my 2 cents worth.

You might want to check your bios settings. Check the boot sequence.
The cable position on your HD and cd rom could be switched or (again) not seated right.
good luck

Well, my outlook isn't very positive. I had a similar problem with my new comp, and ended up RMA'ing a few Mobo's and bought a new chip, then it all worked...

I suggest you go get the parts checked by someone who can, or check them yourself, just the mobo and the chip.
