GeForce4 Ti4200 64MB

I remember that I saw it somewhere some manufacturer uses 3.5ns memory on their GeForce4 Ti4200. I have the following questions.

(1)Is the performance noticeable between 3.5ns and 4ns memory?
(2)What company makes 3.5ns?
(3)I saw a place selling Prolink GeForce4 Ti4200 64MB with TV out for $150 shipped. Is Prolink a reputable company? Personally, I've never heard about it before.

Please respond ASAP. Thank you very much.

(1) Ask LPMiller.

(2) Probably Gainward and their "Golden Sample".

The Gainward barecard uses 3.5ns memory. This means that the highest the memory should run is slightly higher than 4ns memory. I don't remember the exact calculation, but I believe 0.5 ns corresponds to 50 MHz. So...the theorhetical highest speed on the 3.5 ns boards will be 50MHz faster than the 4ns memory.

my $0.02: I'm going to buy a card that uses the NVidia reference chipset and form. That way, I know that the reference drivers will work, and the chance for compatibility problems is far less. If you shop around, you'll notice nearly all Ti4200 cards have all their components in the same spots. Also, the 4ns versus 3.5 ns thing doesn't matter as much as stability and features.

The prolink card...

http://www.prolink.com.tw/new_web/pr...0ti%204200.htm

It appears that the Ti4200 is the reference NVidia chipset. Most likely, someone else builds the card and they slap their name on it.

Free shipping is nice from NS Technologies...but this place has no rating at reselleratings.com, but the site that it directs you to: MixPC.com does. Check out their rating here:

Which video card should I choose?
(1)Prolink GeForce4 Ti4200 with 4ns 64MB and TV-OUT for $150
(2)Gainward GeForce4 Ti4200 with 3.5ns 64MB and no TV-OUT $152

The price difference is only 2 bucks.... I wonder if the extra 50mhz would really stand out and worth the trade for TV OUT.

check resellerratings!

MixPC got...mixed reviews. Some of the positive reviews sound canned...like the site was bombed by employees. Anyway, buyer beware.

As far as which card...the gainward should be more stable in overclocking with the faster memory (memory=bottleneck for GeForce4's). If you never see yourself using a digital flat panel or TV out, get the gainward card; it's worth the $2.

If you can see yourself picking up a Digital Flant Panel, LCD projector, or may want to output to a TV / VCR / another computer, then get the reference board with the DVI and TVout.

I'd get the Gainward since I have no interest in a tv-out. Haven't heard that much about Prolink. I do have a Gainward Ti500 and its great.

sbp....memory heatsinks?

Have you installed them on your GeForce3? I'm wondering if they would help in overclocking the Ti4200. I've noticed some cards ship with custom memory heatsinks, while others just direct airflow over the memory before it flows over the cpu.

Bires: It came with heatsinks on the memory.

I'm not going to overclock the video card as if my system is not hot enough. I'm currently running IBM LCD that doesn't come with DVI. Um.... I guess I won't need those features and also I heard that TV OUT feature for NVIDIA card sucks and worse than ATI. Is that true?

Most likely I would get the Gainward card....

Thanks for your helps, guys.

TV-out using S-video sucks a$$... It has lines and it's blurry!

where from? Let me know what you think of the seller. Most of the pricewatch sellers have poor or average ratings at resellerratings.

Thanks

Bires,

I got it from NS Technologies and it's currently on back order. Hopefully it won't take them too long to restock.

IMO, Axiontech and Newegg are the two best retailers on Pricewatch. That goes for reliability, rma'ing, and prices.

I think those are 2 of the best as well. However, I prefer New Egg, they just seem like a cool company AND Axiontech is located in Texas so the bastards charge me taxes

ya hopefully... I don't trust these companies that dont update their web page. Resellerratings is full of stories of ppl ordering something, their card being charged, and the product never shipping, or shipping long after the customer asked for the order to be cancelled and shopped somewhere else.

I agree with the guys...Newegg is definately the spot. I had an RMA with them, and they crosshiped next day air and reimbursed me for shipping. GO Newegg!

AXION is alright. I bought my EPOX 8KHA+ with them. First mobo had problem, shipped it back in my expanse, and they gave me another one. It'd be perfect if they could pick up the shipping cost.

When I ordered some computer parts, I've never checked their background. My only concern was the price including shipping and tax. Perhaps that explains why my CC has been misused by unknown people twice.

Is resellerrating a reputable resouce? 'cause often time those online rating is full of bogus, posted by their employees and etc.

The good thing about resellerratings is that they have something that is almost like an open forum. Both customers and employees can respond. I don't usually trust their reviews of the company until there are atleast 15-20 responses on services and what not...

MixPC has pretty quick restock rate as I receive email that they will receive shipment on June 18 and my video card will ship no later than June 19. Just an update.

It took MixPC 5 days to ship the video card to my door. They package it well. The price is one of the lowest I saw on pricewatch. I'm ready to switch from TNT2 (not even ultra) to GeForce4 Ti4200!

I also ordered a Maxtor hard drive from googlegear.com, they have free Fedex 2 day shipping. That's why it arrives faster. Both online merchants are great this time.
