Thumbs up Lite-on DVD is alright!

Ok, so stupid dell took 3 weeks to send my lite on stuff...

I just hooked up the DVD drive and popped in Casablanca
and now I'm watching a movie. Very smooth and no glitches so far.
I'm having a problem with low sound(onboard sux?). I might have to adjust something(like the sound).

I know its just an old black and white movie but I thought it wouldn't run this well and I'm pretty happy with the results.
The screen is set to 115x by 8xx.

Now for some Shrek...
Good news the sound is better. Bad news a little pixelation on the full screen and subtitle . Colours could be nicer but its better than my old tv. Time to tweak my vid card. 175/400mhz is a little slow.
Looks like it helped but Im not sure. The chase with the fire breathing dragon ran very nicely.

I feel like testing it with the 17" LCD Flatscreen to check that for ghosting, etc.

Can I play the different formats of DVDs, VCDs, etc.? Do I need other software or anything.

Looks like its time for a new video card.

Current System:
P4 2.2ghz
MSI ultra645 333 w/onboard sound
512 Corsair XMS2700c2 fastestC2 @33xmhz
Vtek ti200 @225/529mhz
Maxtor 60gig 7200
SS SyncMaster 955DFlat

you can play vcd's with a regular cd drive. when i had powerdvd it would autoplay and vcds i put in, but after i formatted and didnt install powerdvd i just use windows media player. you can either copy any files in the mpegav folder of the vcd to your hd and change the extention to .mpg or you can just open the .dat files with wma.

I can't stand WM so I use PowerDVD to play DVDs and VCDs!

Just a note, its not really the dvd drive that dictates the quality of the movie playback. It is on the decoding scheme be it software or hardware.
