4800 x 1200 DPI printers at a low price....
I figured since the big birthday (18) was comming up in a few days, and I don't have a printer for my new computer yet, that maybe I'd go and buy one. I was looking at the Cannon s520 (I'm looking for good photo printing at a nice ~150 price) then realized HP has a couple printers for $150 and less (hp5550 and another one) that have 4800 x 1200 dpi resolution, and I figured that these would be great for photo printing, and if I'm not mistaken the 5550 has ink tanks kind of like the cannon, but I haven't been able to find many reviews on these printers and was wondering if any of you guys have had experience with the new 4800 x 1200 dpi printers and their photo printing abilities. thanks in advance.

Hp's blow for photo printing. If all you want is mostly photo printing and some light text go with canon or epson.

i totally disagree. the photosmart series are ranked among the best in terms of photoprinting. their small 4*6 printer has taken top honors of 4*6 comparisons that i see, and that printer is well under 200. i have an hp 800 series, and that printers photos ok, and my parents have a photosmart 1215 and that printers great pictures regardless of size. canon makes a decent printer, but i still think the HP's are better. I have never been satisfied with any epson product since the dot matrix days. here is a link of some reviews: http://imaging-resource.com/PRINT.HTM http://www.steves-digicams.com/printers.html http://www.epinions.com/cmhd-Printers-All-Digital personally, i would buy a photosmart 1000 on a limited budget. i think they run about 150.00 right now. they have great output, and also feature a memory card reader on the printer, which means you can print your pictures without your computer being on, and you can also read the card on the computer. Some hp's feature IR, which is nice when you have an IR capable PDA or camera.

Eh. . . I'm talking about real photo quality. HPs are ok at photos but their models are limited compared to the output of epson or canon printers. Hps definitely have the honors for text but not for photographs.

I have a Canon 8200 and it prints great photo-quality pics. Of course it's printed on photo paper but you can't tell the difference between the originial and the printed copy. I took a photo, scanned it, brought it up in Adobe Photoshop and printed it out without and modifications and it printed out great.
I like Canon because of the individual ink tanks. So when one color goes out I can just chuck it and buy a new one for like $12.

Well I went to Best Buy and just couldn't resist the HP taunting me.... it was 99 dollars and has 4800x1200 dpi printing resoultion, its the HP 3820....I tried it out with an 8x10 picture and it looked truely fantastic except for one thing that really REALLY bugged me....there was one band towards the left side of the picture (most noticable on the skin tones) that looks almost like the ribbon laying on it and making an imprint or something...I haven't tried any more than that one picture though, so maybe it was just a fluke. Just thought I'd let ya'll know how it works out.

we used to have a 4 cartridge canon bjc720. it was great during the days of 720 dpi printing, but looks horrible now. the problem we had woith it was the ink well dried extremely fast, and they were very small.
