How about a wireless network? No drilling in walls.

I used Leviton stuff when I did my house. This is awesome material to work with and looks very cool.

You will also need wire conduit to run in the wall.

ZrEo0,
If you need Cat 5 cable, I have a LOT just sitting here in my garage. Seriously. I have many short runs (100-200' lengths, varying colors of grey, white, blue, etc) and I also have a full box 1000' of Cat5 that I haven't touched. Most of the stuff is plenum rated (teflon coated) with the exception of the 1000' box (it's Riser-rated only - PVC). If you need it, I can make you a very sweet deal because my wife has been looking to get rid of it for a while (Merlin, no comments please ).

Same as the cables... They punch down into the wall jacks like the back of the patch panel, but you just match up the colors. Make sure you use the same standard throughout the house!!! There are 2 cabling standards - 568A and 568B. I recommend that you follow 'B' - some people say 'A' is for home & 'B' is for business use, but everywhere I look I always see 'B' used. Don't know why they have different standards anyway. Also, I recommend that you do NOT make your own patch cables. Hand crimped cables are very easy to screw up, so your odds are better with the pre-made ones. If you do make your own, get yourself a basic cable tester to verify that they are wired properly. Good luck, and have fun! |
