Dell LCD problems

OK, i am typing this on a optiplex gx 240 (p4 16. GHz), with a dell branded LCD attached to it. The LCD likes to flicker, so we had dell replace it, and it still did it. We then replaced th video card, and it still flickers.

It does it at random. the screen will go blank for a few seconds, then come back on like nothing had happened. Its very annoying, expecially when you are actually doing work .

Anyone have any clues on why this is doing it?

Probably there is something nearby causing interference. Anything too close to it with power - another monitor, a copy machine, a fan, etc. can all cause interference. You could also have interference on the power line - maybe try plugging it into a different outlet or putting a line conditioner or a UPS there.

Man if i was on a sixteen GHz computer let the LCD flicker!

Refresh Rates perhaps?

What kind of connections are there? Do you use a dongle? Is it straight DVI to DVI connections? Make sure none of the pins are bent. They are suppose to be twisted if you know what I mean. Make sure the connections are nice and tight. Also check the settings in the monitor menu.

[edit]Try swapping the power cable and make sure it is in there nice and good.[/edit]

the whole screen is flickering? or only the window that you're scrolling?

I guess the entire screen although the word flicker seems to understate the problem.

Well, send it over to me and I'll test it out for a few months for ya.

Seriously tho - call Dell again. If your machine & the LCD are both still under warranty, keep calling them until they either throw up their hands or replace the same thing three times. This is the magic moment that you call your sales rep or customer service & let them know that the service dept can't fix your problem & you have a lemon. Odds are pretty good that you'll be able to convince them to send you a whole new system.
