Anyway I installed memory on to it and now when i press hard on the rightside of the keyboard i can feel it pop in and out, i did not try it before the memory install so not sure if it was just installing the keyboard on top incorrectly, what you guys htink? normal or should I check it out...?

it sounds like the keyboard latch isnt catching, possibly becuase the metal plate isnt installed correctly. Make sure the plate is installed correctly, and the keyboard is latched down correctly. Lock the center of the keyboard as well.

There is also a magnet over 1 of the screws under the right halfof the keyboard. make sure that is seated correctly.

apple uses hfs for the default filesystem.

Here are some quick notes:
OS 9 cannot see UFS
UFS is case sensitive, HFS isnt.
HFS files remeber application type & creator associations with files
Carbon apps (apps made for 9 & X) may have compatibility issues with UFS.

There used to be issues with airport & UFS when the public beta of X was out. These may be cleared up by now.

I would stay HFS. I have yet to find any concrete evidence that X runs any faster on either filesystem.

is there a way to get the touchpad on the ibook to behave similar to the window ones? where if u drag it and just leave finger at edge of touchpad then it will continue to go in that direction, convient for scrolling..... Also is there anywhere to get a manuel on the functions of the ibook (keyboards and stuff) the thing they came with just talks about some features in software, I don't need to know that, I want to know about the keyboard and what things do, such as why I can't get home and end to work... and what the Fn key does, does not help on home and end though i thought it should.... also where i can find help as to what some sys prefs mean like full keyboard... cause I really use the home and end key a lot and it is getting annoying not having them working for every program..

uggh.... can't get my ibook to communicate with my PC =(
I have a hub, put the two together... the PC has internet while ibook doesn't cause only one IP given. so i use (XP) ipconfig to see my IP and typed smb://IP/sharefoldername/ and it says it can't find it, it can't even ping the IP of the PC.... does this type of connection only work with internet connection? is there a way to share in a local network?

to share files from your PC to the Mac you NEED OS X.2 or Jaguar as it's called by Apple. It has built in Windows File Sharing Support so connecting between PC and Macs is just like macs. File Sharing is never easier.

Well firstly the fact that you're using a hub could be the problem I have a router and it works fine with the wireless or if I connect the ibook to a port with a cable it works without any setups besides selecting which device to connect to the internet. And about sharing between a pc and mac, pick up dave, it makes the mac able to share files with a pc. VERY easy to use and works is the key.

does your ibook have a valid IP and if so where is it coming from? how is your network setup? I'm not positive but I think to get connection sharing to work right you need 2 nics. And you can share files with mac OS before 10.2 it really quite simple. Dave is a great program for it but others work.

Thanks, anyone know how to watch VCDs on the ibook? I tried using Qicktime and iDVD but both would not seem to read the .Dat file that is in the VCD. I use to use PowerDVD for Windows and that work well but not sure if there is a version for Mac and if there a way to get the iDVD or QT to watch the file, am I just missing a codec? if so where to d/l it?

unfortunately them bastids don't have vcd support native in osx. Hopefully 10.2 will fix that. But you can view vcds in 9.2 or earlier. Also there are vcd players that run in osx, do a search over at versiontracker.com

The OS will not change the file names language. iTunes may have chinese support, look at apple site

haha cool will chk it out, it is annoying that itunes put the files in libaray by artest and stuff because some files are just not labeled correctly or all in chinese... grrr.. anyway of stoping that i stoped it from copying, but when i transfer to iPod still have that annoying structure, can't read the name either... anywhere I can post a suggestion or question to apple to see if they can make iPod support chinese =P (chinese song titles not chinese menus....)

also have not tried it yet since just got it, does the ipod synch by only adding? say i have songs in lib but i delete that off libaray can it be still kept in ipod or will i have to do manueal synch for that to happen? also can i add song files to ipod without going through iTunes?

The song titles are again part of a file, and apple will avoid any data manipulation since translators are often wrong, which can mean a potential lawsuit. You will have to rename the files manually or edit the ID3 tags to reflect the chinese naming

iPod is designed to allow 1 way data transfer. When rio intorduced the original mp3 player, they needed to add this feature to make it legal to sell. apple has to abide by that. There are applications that will overcome that though. do a search at www.versiontracker.com/macosx/

o but the ID3 Tag if in chinese has to be changed to English for it to view correctly? Cause I want to view Chinese titles which should be what it is in the ID3 tag

Transfer I meant if i have say a b c on libaray then synch but i want to delete a b c from my ibook to save space, would it stil have a b c on ipod or will it synch and delete?
