m105 PDA

Okay, forgive me cause I don't know where this should be posted.

I saw the deal for the m105 on the deals page that I would like to take advantage of. The only feature that concerns me is that I would like to be able to send and recieve e-mail from my pda easily (I can pretty much do that from my cell phone already with the exception of reading e-mail in its entirety).

This model requires you purchase a modem (or data cable for cell phone, $100 for mine). I wonder if it would be worth it to just get one of the other models, but can't really tell if I would still have to purchase a modem.

I know if I got one of these, I would really use it cause I like to be organized. Does anyone else use one? What do you recommend? My original plan was to buy myself one for christmas and get the one I REALLY want, but then "do I really need to spend xtra for a color display"?

well i don't know much about the palms.. but as far as usuage and color display I have an iPaq and I love it. But I don't use it to it's entirety (sp?) because I like jotting notes and stuff on paper and to carry the ipaq around is a bit or a bulk to add to everything else. I do use it to store pictures and some notes and stuff during school but I don't know how much I will be using it now that I have a laptop

Re: m105 PDA

It just depends on your wants. Data services for a PDA are pretty far fetched, as it requires quite a bit from the user in its current form.

If you want to read email:
My best bet for you is to wait until oct/nov, when alot of CDMA handset manufacturers will release color screen models for phones. The color screens will allow you to read quite a bit at the same time, as opposd to a dinky current cell phone. Sprint and Verizon are probably best with their data services offering, as both have high speed data and color screen phones, but Verizon has by far better coverage in the LA area. Sprint has color screen phones just released last week, but VZW will have handsets this month too.

If you really want a PDA and want to read email:
I would reccomend a PDA/Phone model. The Kyocera 6035e (Verizon). The Handspring 270 on GSM networks (Cingular). The pocket PC mobile edition (T mobile). The Samsung I300 (Sprint PCS) Remember, you usually have to pay a bit more for data services. I wouldn't reccomend you to use a seperate cable. The cable is too bulky and it's quite a bit to carry, then connect when you need to use it.

If you want a PDA, but email isn't too important:
Most PDAs allow you to sync email and read it offline. Any PDA will do, but I like Pocket PCs personally. Ipaq or Toshibas are all fine for me :-P

Since reading an email offline is unacceptable for me, I am waiting for the following phones:

Motorola T720
Coming out sometime this month
and the Toshiba 9500
Coming out sometime this or next month.

Both on Verizon (i can only stand verizon) and both with like 11-12 lines for text.

Alot of people in my church can't wait for the Kyocera 7135 since it'll integrate good cell phone service with a PDA with the ability to put your digital bible on there. (also mp3 player)

And I just bought a phone in May that I'm not too happy with.

I think I'll go with this one since its only $55. Esp since I lost my Franklin Planner a week ago and need to get something quick cause I feel kinda lost.

I'm sure within the next few years when I want to upgrade, there will be a model (deal) to fit my wants/needs.

I've had AT & T when it was L.A. Cellular...never had a problem. I started off with this deal (back in 96' before the free weekend wars), .10 per call 7pm-7am on weekdays and weekends.

I'm embarrassed to say what phone...lets just say, I didn't to my research and paid too much money.

If you're on AT&T, then I can guess you got the Moto V60T or Nokia 8260
If you're on Verizon, then I can guess the Moto V60C
If you're on Cingular, then I can guess the Moto V70 or V60g or Ericsson T68 (was it out then)
If you're on Sprint, then I can guess the Samsung A400/460 or Sanyo 6200 or 5100

If anything...go for a handspring Visor...I've read many reviews and done lots of research on PDA's, and Handspring is the way to go. The other thing is, if you go on any bidding site, you will see palms being sold, while you will see very few Visor being auctioned off, thus telling you that Visor is the way to go! I'm planning to get a visor once my next paycheck comes in! Can't wait! And visor has great wireless plans also for email and all sorts of wireless stuff!

Geez, I sound like a sales man!

If you're going to be typing out e-mails, take a look at Handspring's Treo devices -- with the exception of the 180g, all of them have a thumb-typable keyboard built into them.

If you don't mind Hotsyncing your e-mails (i.e., read & compose messages off-line, then send them when you synchronize with a PC), then go for the Treo 90 (basic PDA). If you need to actually send messages wirelessly, go with one of the others (180/270/300).

That would be my recommendation

I would reccomend them except...nah, I wouldn't reccomend them becuase the only nice way to describe the networks that they run on in the US is to call it "crappy". But, then again, I think calling them "crappy" would be too nice.

It runs on T-Mobile, Cingular, SPCS in its current form
I can't reccomend any GSM providers in the US. SPCS just is subpar in most metro areas. Buyer Beware.

BTW, tested the 180 and 270, can't figure out why the damn case on those things creak so much...it scares me.

I just decided to go with this one.

I looked at the others that were recommended but I'm leary about "off" brands (so to speak) exp since I've never heard of them nor do I know of anyone who actually has one. Not to mention, the prices were as high as the Palm I really want.

I figure this is a great place to start, and I can get what I want later.

Thanks for the advice!

Psycho - I have the Ericsonn T6? (sux).
