Re: NV18 and NV28

There is a thread @ gamershq.madonion.com about the 8x AGP GF4 MX440 and GF4 Ti4200. It shows couple of benchmarks and the 8x cards are barely faster than the 4x ones. I wouldn't waste $$$ on the 8x GF4 cards if I already had a similar ones @ 4x.

I wonder, will there ever be video cards that have more than 128mb? I mean I know there are cards that have more than that($$), it's just that standard seems to be 64/128. ? Or is it something like right now you don't really need more than that or it's just too expensive and people aren't willing to pay that much. Or maybe both I dunno...

To rephrase the question: will 256 MB cards become the standard? That's not going to happen for a long while. Having more memory increases the cost. 64 meg cards run most games fine today. Although 128 MB cards increasingly will be better to have {DoomIII baby}. Finally I'm sure some high end gaming cards will come with 256 MB before too long.

Hey sbp, thanks for clearing that up for me. I was always curious about it. I mean video cards used to have s tiny bit of memory on them and then they were 4,8,16,24,32,64, and now 128 and it seems like it hasn't taken that long for them to grow into such complicated pieces of circuitry. Of coarse maybe that's just me...
