Looks like a decent card but not as good as the ATI.
I would have liked to see a comparison between the Saphire and the Ati version of the 9700pro. ![]() -jel ![]()

As I said in the review, it's the same exact card, except for the heatsink. There is no difference.

um... no. i think that saphire regulary sells for like $30+ cheaper. also it seems the radeon version had better scores than what you got on that. in the early comparisons the ti4600 lost in every test(besides that gf one) and they ran the radeon at higher quality. ![]() -jel ![]() BTW: just stirring the pot, i'm the same guy who complained of no ocing scores on that ti4400 review . plz show me a direct comparison sometime. i'd like to buy the saphire card and save $ if its the ati's equal. |

Well again, the Radeon is more CPU limited, I think, then the GeForce. You wont see the trouncing on a 1.4GHZ machine that you do on a higher end one. The lower the CPU speed, the closer the two cards perform. A lot of the early raving about it being 160 percent faster was just so much hooey. It depends on the setup, and I always take tests on top end systems with a grain of salt - because top end systems are outside the average user.
It IS the same card; in fact the very first ones by Sapphire were made by ATI and used the ATI heatsink. I'm not positive that this card wasn't made by ATI - my understanding is there still aren't too many non ATI cards being produced yet. |

The guy at www.3dchipset.com couldn't get the Radeon9700 working and he has a great power supply: the PC Power & Cooling Silencer 400 ATX. Definitely some issues to be worked out with this card.

The motherboard is an Intel OEM board, i860 dual Xeon chipset. Power supply is a 500 watt Compaq workstation class power supply, on their top of the line EVO W8000 workstation. It's extremely stout, but I've also tried 2 other PS's and none of them work.
I need to RMA the card for a revision 1.3 card. |

It's likely not the Powersupply, but the motherboard. I know HardOCP was mentioning some mainboards aren't providing the right voltage through the AGP slot - the Radeon is VERY picky about it, I guess.

Nah, it's an ATI card. In fact, I just bought a second 9700 Pro card yesterday to try out. The first card was revision 0.0 I believe, the second card revision 1.0.
