memory heat spreader

hey all, i just got a half-gig of Mushkin ddr ram, and i was wondering if anyone know anything about heat spreaders on it. I got a free oen, and was wondering if its a waste of time or not. Also, i'm not sure how to install the spreader. i dont want to screw around with such expensive ram

anyway, its two aluminum interlocking pieces, with two metalic u-clips. i can figure out how those fit, but i also got a strip of this thermally conductive sticky strip thing. I think this goes on the non-chip side of the ram, but i'm not sure. the website is all in chinese www.snake.com.tw. My chinese is a little rusty.

anyway, i'm sure someone out there has got a heat spreader. please advise! thanks

There are some pictures on this page that might help you out.

I think that unless you are going to try and seriously overclock the RAM, you probably don't need them. But if they were free, it can't hurt.

Thanks! I got a Mushkin Stick, the heat spreader is not yet attatched, and i bought from TwinMicro. Seems good so far, but i havent tested the memory yet.

Ooops, i also placed an order from buyAIB.com a few days ago Pray for the best when the stuff arrives. Its a hard drive, so it should be okay, i hoep....

Hey, about the heat spreader, mine only came with one of the Heat COnductive strips, so i can only stick one side of the ram to the heat spreader. WHich side do you suggest? THe other sides of the heat spreader have a non-adhesive plasticy substance on them that will spread heat too, so not worried aobut that.

Thanks for the help you guys. RAM is in, sans "heat spreader". The glue on the thing looked really fishy, so i decided not to stick it to my expensive ram.

What do you use to test your ram once its in? I want a thorough test, see how my different dimms' compare. its DDR PC2100 Btw

thanks
