Is this possible and with what equipment? I have not used wireless before. If I were to get say cable modem with one static ip. How is the cable box device setup and which one connection? The question is is it possible to get a wireless access point connected to it and have multiple computers use that one connection?

basiclly it's like setting up a regular, cabled network. Wirless router hooked up to your cable modem, and wireless NIC cards on all the computer's that you want hooked up.
this may help a little for further questions: http://www.practicallynetworked.com/...t_wireless.htm ![]() |

one thing to keep in mind is the 2.4 ghz wireless networks only run around 10mbs. I don't knwo how fast the new 5 ghz are. 10mbs is fine for surfing, but for trasferring files or listening to music it's terrible.
my advice is unless you have a real good reason to go wireless, to use wires. i've only set up one wireless network, and it was a pain in the arse. took all day (partially b/c some of the equipment ended up being bad). the guys i set it up for say it goes out all the time and they constantly have to reboot the router. maybe it's just the equipiment, who knows? it was all linksys stuff. oh..the other thing i've heard is that if you have a 2.4 ghz phone they will interfere with each other. |

and a higher end microwave ![]() My brother set up a wireless network in his house, and he doesn't have any real problems. he gets some dropped packets when he plays UO, and CTF but other than that, he loves it. Plus he likes playing UO in the bathroom ![]() |
