Smallest HD for Video Editing?
What is the minimum size hard drive that would be required for a two hour movie or other video event?
A friend of mine is going to teach me how to edit video weddings. I want to have the proper size HD and other equipment to do this.If large enough, would an 18 GB 10K RPM SCSI have any advantage over IDE? |

an 18gig should do just fine for a 2 hour video. although if you want to store backups for all of the videos you are going to work on (which you should), you will want a bit more than that.

Uhm actually 18 GB won't be enough for two hours of video. If you are planning on working with DV you'll need over 25GB free just for the video, not to mention the space for the edited video.

Get at least an 80. You need a good cpu too or else you'll have choppy and lagged video.

I'd go with at least 80 too. The Sony VAIOs for "video editing" come with 80 Gigs and you know OEM computers don't give you enough tod o what you need anyways.

the more room the merrier. The drive should also be on another IDE channel than your primary HD if using IDE. a large ATA 66 or better drive will do. The faster (transfer speed and RPM) the better.
