Problem>old video card cant run on my new system.

I just put together my new system, but still going to use my old Ati Rage Fury MAXX video card as my temporary card until today's nice cards go own in price.
well, here is a little about my system, I got an albatron kx400+ pro w/AMD XP2000+ but can only run it at 1900 because i got ripped off by AIB. I was suppose to have 512MB Samsung PC2700 333MHZ but instead they gave me a noname PC2100.

sorry for nagging ....well to get to the point....I tried installing, updating, uninstalling, reinstalling and all the way posible to get the card to work...but everytime after i restart due to the change of the resolution and color settings....when the system is booting up it will freeze in a grey screen. is this system too fast for the video card to handle? can someone help?

TIA

FB

P.S. got to use this card until i save up enough to get me a nice video card.

ATI Rage Fury MAXX does not support AGP 4X.

Also, what OS are you running? IIRC, Win2K and WinXP don't support that card unless you disable half of it. Does your device manager show something like this:

1. ATI Tehcnologies Inc. Rage Fury MAXX (VGA Device)
2. ATI Tehcnologies Inc. Rage Fury MAXX (Device 2)

Disable the second one.

If you really don't want to buy a new model video card right now, you could always pick up something like an old GeForce 2 GTS at bargain basement prices to hold you over.

thanks for the response,

I am running Win98se, and I tried changing through all AGP 1X/2X/4X
and got the same results. but I will go try seqiro's method later after work and see if it works.

Thanks for the advice, y'all.

Try turning off hardware acceleration.
