OS - XP compatible with laptop wireless card?
I was thinking of purchasing my first laptop because I'm always traveling. At the same time I would like to hook it up to my network when I get to stay home.
Currently I have 2 computers hooked up to DSL using my wirless router and Orinoco Client. I was wondering, if I buy a 802.11b wireless card for the laptop, is there going to be compatibility issues with Windows XP? How can I solve this problem? Any suggestions or advice? Thanks!!! |

As long as your wireless router is the same standard as the wireless NIC, you shouldn't experience any problems. I have different brand Wireless 802.11b cards operating with different wireless routers, it works fine.
And I'm also using WinXP. ![]() |

Only thing I have noticed is the reception on XP is MUCH more worse than on 2000 or 98. I have an ol' dell using a netgear pci wireless and the reception was near useless in xp, but more than better on w2k. Same thing happens with my sisters laptop using an SMC card. My guess is that the xp drivers aren't as good for some reason or something like that I dunno, but damn frustrating.
