was i screwed on a graphics card?

I bought a new dell in august, P4 1.8ghz, and i'm not much of a gamer so i went with the base graphics card. what they gave me was an ATI Rage 128 Ultra (32MB). Sounded pretty new to me, but no where i go online has any info on this card.

I have found drivers, but the only available drivers give me all sorts of garbled text on the screen. Its so bad i'm thinking of getting a new card.

Anyway, does anyone know anything about this card? A friend at work told me the chipset might be 3 or 4 years old already, and adapted from a PCI version of the card. Thought this forum would be a good place to inquire. Thanks

I agree with what chosen said. Also, why don't you try and reinstall the driver using the Control Panels->System->Hardware->Video card->Reinstall driver and point it to the driver file that you downloaded. That might work instead of just double clicking the file.

yeah, i've been trying about every option for fixing this damn card for the past 2 months (sicne i bought the machine) with no avail. I'm working on it with dell now, hopefully they will be able to tell me something.

The drivers have been in and out, i've gone so far as to unisntall the drivers from control panel, reboot into safe mode, switch to "Standard VGA adaptor" and then delete ATI*.* from windows/inf, windows/system32/drivers, and a few other palces, then re-installing the newest version i can find. I think its probably just a defective (****ty) card.
Thanks for the advice though.
