Shuttle Launches World's First AMD Small Form Factor with AGP

Las Vegas, Nev. - November 18, 2002 - Shuttle Inc., a leading provider of innovative motherboards, barebones, and accessories, today announced hdership, the XPC SK41G is the first SFF system to support powerful AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2600+ procefgssors, paired with advanced AGP4X graphics cards.

"The AMD Athlon XP processor provides a blend of performance and power consumption for small form factor applications like the Shuttle XPC SK41G," said Ed Gasiorowski, director of AMD Infrastructure Enablement Group. "Shuttle continues to innovate beyond the traditional beige box form factor, and combined with AMD processing power Shuttle provides customers with a new 'all-in-one' PC form factor based on the AMD Athlon XP processor.

Measuring only 300mm (L) by 200mm (H) by 185mm (W), the XPC SK41G is the smallest full featured AMD Athlon desktop available. Utilizing the proven VIA KM266 chipset, the XPC SK41G features ProSavage 8 video, complete with VGA and S-Video/composite connectors. The XPC SK41G also uses the latest VIA VT8235 southbridge, complemented by the VIA Fire II IEEE-1394 controller, enabling six USB2.0 port and three Firewire(tm) port connectivity.

"The innovative design of the Shuttle XPC SK41G featuring the VIA KM266 chipset demonstrates that small form factor systems need not sacrifice any computing power or connectivity, compared to standard desktop systems" commented Richard Brown, Director of Marketing, VIA Technologies, Inc. "The VIA KM266 Chipset gives end users the flexibility to use the integrated ProSavage8 graphics or opt for an AGP graphics card, as well as a fast DDR memory subsystem and great connectivity through USB 2.0 and ATA-133"

The XPC SK41G also includes an improved Integrated Cooling Engine, Shuttle's patented technology which enables fanless operation of AMD Athlon XP(tm) processors. The improved I.C.E. technology is complemented by an improved case design which greatly increases cooling efficiency for a new generation of high capacity hard drives and higher speed memory.

The Shuttle XPC SK41G is available now in mass quantity, at an MSRP of $319.

Thought everyone might like to see this,

Cheers,
Scott Murphy

Although it's somewhat innovative, I am trying to figure out who the small cases would appeal to. After all, it looks like it can only hold one 5.25" unit.

What more do you really need? I have a SS51G with a Plextor DVD/CD-RW, P4 2.26B GHz, 512MB DDR333 CL2, Abit TI4400 and a WD Special Edition JB 80GB Drive and a floppy. Silence is golden as they say, I never hear it .

These system are nothing to sneeze at but that is just my opinion after 3 months of use and heavy gaming.

Cheers,
Scott Murphy

i would like a small box like that for a couple of reasons. when i make systems for little kids, they dont really need a whole lot and it looks cool and saves space. also it would go great in a car, when (and if) i get my car system going, that is the box im looking at because it has all the essentials for a computer for me. i wont need a whole lot of extras in there because thats what i have a home system for. it would be cheaper than buying an equivilent laptop and i could do everyting with it

To me it also looks like it's PCI....just because of the color of the slot the vid card is sticking in. But....you can't really tell with just looking at color anymore...

Does that GF4 actually fit inside that small case?

I don't think this'll stop anything though - the better you idiot-proof a system, the more impressive the idiot becomes.

if you look real close you can see a brown slot in front of the white one. the white one is a pci slot for the tv card. also look at the connectors on the GF4, those look like agp connectors. i could be wrong but it looks like an agp card to me

Yes.. AGP. I don't think there are PCI ti4200s. On this little box the slots are reverse. The pci is closer to the cpu than the AGP. Yes... it fits in, much easier than you would think. that card is very quite. too. I am glad of that because the I could barely hear the system when I was using onboard vid and I was affraid of putting an AGP card in, but... there is no complaints with this.

I have an Abit TI4400 and had the same concerns when I put it in but it is very quite and easily fits. Don't know what I will do if I get one of those new GF FX video cards! They are huge.

Has anyone tried a Radeon 9700 Pro in one of these Shuttle cubes yet?

Cheers,
Scott Murphy

Ya, there is no way we could use them since the AGP is on the bottom. If the slots were reversed it would be possible if we didn't need anything in the PCI slot.

I have heard of people using the 9700 in the Shuttle cubes. There is not problem.

Here is a nice forum for XPC stuff:
