Modem trouble in Windows NT... any ideas?
I'm trying to load WindowsNT on a new Compaq P4 2gig that is "Designed for WindowsXP".
NT loads just fine, I d-loaded the drivers for the video driver and the modem that I want to install. The video works fine, but I can't get the modem to work. I'm installing the modem to use with pcAnywhere. When I try to initialize the pcAnywhere... it always tells me that another telephony resourse is using the specified device. I can't, for the life of me, figure out what is keeping this modem busy. I tried the "dialer" in Windows, and it still doesn't want to work. Any thoughts or experiences? The same modem installs just fine on the same hardware with Windows2k. Don't ask why I'm doing NT... it just has to be that way. Thanks, Dave. |

Check to see if it is on the Hardware Compatability List. Some modems are listed that will not work with NT 4.0 Others on the list may work, but as usual need driver updates from the manufacturer.
Check out : https://winqual.microsoft.com/download/default.asp Click on NT40xHCL.txt to see if your modem is listed. Best of luck. Eric |

If I remember correctly (it's been a while), I think that winmodems don't work with NT. These are modems that use software & the PCs CPU rather than hardware on the modem itself to process the signal. For some reason there was a compatibility issue with NT & these devices.
So, if you have a 'winmodem' you may be out of luck. |
