Video Card Suggestions?
Ok, finally it seems like a good time to get a new video card. I have somewhat different requirements than most, so I'll list those out:
1) MUST be dual-head. I have two 17" monitors that I use 2) AGP 3) I play a few games, but gaming performance isn't top priority at all 4) MUST have a tv-tuner. I love to watch TV on my computer A TV-in would be second choice, I suppose I could buy a old VCR. 5) Preferrably a TV-Out and such too I think that's about it. The ATI All-in-Wonder's seem like a great choice, but I haven't seen one in a good dual-head configuration. Possibily a GeForce? Thanks for any suggestions! |

I think you might have trouble finding a card with a TV tuner and dual video out... I would like that, I am looking at the Radeon 9700 Pro (best card out right now IMHO) which has dual out, but the All in wonder version doesn't have dual out. you could always get a seperate tv tuner card, they aren't too expensive, got mine for around $40 a while ago.

As far as I know, no GF cards come with a TV tuner...
What I do want to suggest is a combo that I have right now, ATI Radeon 9500 Pro and a basic PCI TV tuner card (I have Hauppauge WinTV Go). The Radeon 9500 Pro has excellent dual monitor support. I'm running 2 19" CRT's right now, and the software for it couldn't be better. Rich colors and all... and when I get back to playing games, using the new unlocked BIOS for it, I can get performance higher than any GeForce card that's on the market right now. I got the retail boxed version for $199 shipped. A basic TV tuner card does the job of TV AND gives you a video in jack. I used to have a GF2 with video in, and I was able to play Dreamcast on my PC, but when I upgraded, the new cards don't seem to have this option in a well priced area, so a TV card does the job for $40-$60. For about $240, you'll get an awesome set up for dual monitors, TV watching, video in, and gaming. The All in Wonder is $400 I believe, so you'll be saving a good $160! |

Maybe TV Tuner cards have changed since I last looked at them, but don't they require you to keep the TV Watching confined to one monitor?
Thanks for the advice! |

The perfect card for you! . . . Almost . . .
Matrox Parhelia 256MB Triple-RGB, Dual-DVI, TV output
High performance 2D, 3D & video Triple-RGB, Dual-DVI, TV output Surround Design and Surround Gaming 16x Fragment Antialiasing UltraSharp Display Output technology 10-bit GigaColor technology Lots More... Actually, you did not say anything about price points, but let’s just say that if you can afford this card ($585 at NewEgg ) you can probably also get a couple of nice 18” LCD screens along with it. Otherwise, it really does sound like the perfect match. |
