Pocket PC wireless questions
Greetings G|A Pocket PC gurus. I am configuring a couple of toshiba Pocket PC e740's to be used for wireless data entry in our clinic. As always I want to make it as easy as possible for the users, and so I have some somewhat basic questions. If any of you can answer any of these questions, I would greatly appreciate it.
This pocket PC has a few different protocols for connecting to a network, including bluetooth, modem, infared, and 802.11 wireless. Is there a way to determine what the default connection type is when firing up either Internet Explorer or Terminal Services? Right now when you start IE I get an error saying that it can't connect using the current wireless settings. A dialog box pops up showing three different settings for connecting, none of which are using the wireless card. Is there any way around this? Secondly in order to use the wireless network where I work, I need to authenticate using a browser. Is there a way, similar to how you configure a proxy server, to set a default user name and password? Thanks fellas. ~eSDee

in your settings - connections panel there are the properties for your wireless settings and for your internet settings. in there you should be able to set up your wireless connection. ther is on one of theose pages a place to set the proxy server. i'm at work now and dont have a wireless connection. i can't get to the screen to check it.
i think to set the wireless default you have to change the settings and the do a SOFT reboot. the hidden switch on the SIDE of the 740. then the settings should take. Secondly in order to use the wireless network where I work, I need to authenticate using a browser. Is there a way, similar to how you configure a proxy server, to set a default user name and password? i thought i saw a screen wher you could set that - but i cant find it now, i'll check at home later.

Thanks hoey I think that worked. Now whenever I start my browser it uses my wireless card. I also had to take the "Enable Power Saver" off that would randomly shut off the wireless card.
Hoey = cool. |
