I'll second the opinion on Creative modems.
Also, Broadxent is branch of Creative, and that's the maker of the most recent modem I bought. Picked one up at Best Buy for $7 after rebate (open box item, 10% off, and $10 rebate). Performs very well for my parents, and there's a feature that if you only have one line (like they do), you can "pause" the internet and take the call or make one -- it will tell you when someone's trying to call, which is very useful. Although it may be a service about which you have to ask your phone provider. |

CLEARLY I didn't read carefully, I thought the topic was "PCI Modems to..." wait, how could I have misread it?
Oh well, I still stand by Broadxent! |

LOL, my sister in law once said that all pizza is the same...I almost killed her. There are sucky modems, and there are good modems. Personally, I look for the best hardware modems availible. I have a nice Zoom hardware modem that I picked up a few years ago. Mine is v.90 but there are now v.92 ones around. Dont buy pile of crap software or USB modems. Hardware is the only way to go. Here is the Zoom v.90... http://www.zoom.com/graphics/datasheets/29200101.pdf LK |

I once found a Motorola SM56 modem in my bag after a computer show(not purchasing it!!) They threw it in for free or on accident. But that was by far the best modem I ever had. Hardly ever got disconnected, download speeds seemed consistent. Ended up buying 6 of them for random friends and relatives. It is junked now due to cable modem access.

IMO the best modems are hardware based ISA modems if you have a free ISA slot. I've always had problems with software based modems they tend to drop more connections for me.
