speakers making poping sound

i have the logitech z340 2.1 speakers. and they frequently make a popping sound when i leave them on. they are plugged into a surge and everything. the sound is find coming out of them. is it my sound card thats causing the poping sound?

the best way to find out would be to plug some headphones into the soundcard, then if that comes out clear plug the headphones into the "headphone" jack on the speakers. I think those speakers have one somewhere....
