logitech z-680 vs klipsch 5.1

What do you think is better?
Any reviews, can't really find a direct comparison between the 2

Well, I have the Klipsch and my friend just recently got the the 680s. I haven't messed with his much, but from what I can tell, the 680s do have more power, but is seems to me that the klipsch are better in the bass, but I staill can't figure on the hi's and mid's. As far as 5.1 it is hard for both of us becuase the speaker placement and room dimensions are not very good for the correct 5.1 setup. I will have to watch more movies @ his house before I can really compare them.

I have the same problem as you seeing comparisons online. If there is a review of the 680s, they may mention the Klipsch, but there is very much actual comparison. I would like to hear both systems with the same hardware backing them and in the same sized room. Then the only difference would be the speakers.

I do know, though, you will be happy with either one.

....but considering the Klipsch name, I doubt they'll be as inexpensive as the Logitech z-680's are.

Funky looking...Bet they won't be cheap, either. I think for the money I would go with the Logitechs. I've got no complaints about my Z-560's, except that it would be nice if they were 5.1 instead of 4.1 like the Z-680's. However, I don't watch many movies at my computer so I guess it doesn't mattter that much.

MSRP of $299 US for the new Klipsch speakers.

My only question now, is how powerful are they? The only numbers I seemed to find was a 100w amp (which makes sense for the sub, but what about the other speakers), and an SPL rating of 108dB.

Ok here is the deal on those 2 sets of speakers. My bro got the Logitechs for xmas, and I am listening to my Klipsch's right now. We did extensive testing with all sorts of things, so here is how it breaks down.

Logitech:

1. AWESOME BASS. As in insanely powerful full bass. The whole system is just really high powered, and can really handle whatever you throw at it. Overall a bit tinny.

2. Once again, just rocks in games, CS was huge, machine gun was once again the "noisemaker" weapon. ;-)

3. On the music front, it didnt reproduce music nearly as well as the Klipsch. For example, Jazz and Classical and Accoustic pieces werent nearly as full and seemed a bit tinny at times. On the other hand, rock, metal, and rap were just awesome because of that sub.

4. DVDs: Once again in scenes where the bass is featured, this system just sounded really awesome. But compared to the Klipsch it wasnt nearly as good.

Klipsch:

1. Bass was very good, actually it was excellent sound reproduction, but because the Logitech was really overpowered and just huge, it came off as better in certain situations.

2. Games just didnt seem as immersive as with the Logitechs. Although I must admit that I thought the surround support was better. For example playing HL and other games with surround support I could truly feel the sound coming from different directions.

3. Music is where the Klipschs really shine. These things are magnificent. From Pink Floyd to Miles Davis to Tool to Tupac, these things were amazing. Of course the bass wasnt as exagerated as the Logitechs, but if you want excellent reproduction, these are the ones.

4. DVDs: Oh man, all I have to say is the gunfight lobby scene in The Matrix. Ive never been so impressed with my computer. Saving Private ryan beach landing was just awesome, bullets whizzing by, bombs exploding, all beautifully done by the Klipchs.

Ok well I guess thats it. Both are awesome speakers if you ask me, it really just depends on what you want more out of your speakers. Also note: Im slightly biased here, I put the money down on the Klipchs, so invariably im probably giving them a slightly more glowing review than they deserve ;-)
