As we noted here Thursday, the GeForceFX 5800 Ultra will never make it to retail. Those of you that PreBuy the cards will still get an Ultra model with the FX Flow cooling unit. Those who don't will have the opportunity to get the non-Ultra version (400/800) off the retail shelves for a price of US$300.00 although the price is not confirmed. |

I love it. Nvidia realizes they F***ed up big time and they are pulling the cards so as not to lose money like running water. They had better pull something out of their next line of cards. My other suggestion is to fire all the 3dfx employees. They sank one ship, now they are sinking another.
If it was for second party companies like Albatron, Gainward and Asus who squeeze extra mileage out of Nividia products to make them good, Nvidia would be damaged. |

Behold the curse of 3dfX! It will plague anybody that acquire 3DFX technology.
Looks like all those negative reactions to the GeForceFX Ultra previews hit home. Nvidia knows no one {or few} would buy the damn thing. And perhaps there was had problems with producing it. If accurate, this is a good move. Yes, Nvidia's reputation will take a further hit, but releasing this fiasco would have been worse. NV got caught with their pants down and GeForceFX Ultra was made just to beat the Radeon 9700 Pro in benchies. With the R350 on the way it makes little sense to release the Ultra. Funny, Bennet's request to trade a GeFlopFX Ultra for a Voodoo 6000. How fitting. That also never came out to retail and was a flop. IMO Nvidia never should have came up with an Ultra at all. They should have released the regular GeForceFX 5800. Okay so it wouldn't be fastest thing out there. Crap happens. I also wonder how well the regular GeForceFX will sell priced at $300. Its not much better than the Radeon 9700. And the Radeon 9700 Pro MSRP is dropping. NV30 is a short lived product. The FX is the basic architecture for the followups for the NV35 and whatnot. From what I've heard the NV31 and NV34 are not impressive. The NV30 followup, the NV35, is to come out in a few months {August?} and will be a better product than NV30. |

The more I hear about which *NEW* card is faster, and how many months it will be until that card will be the slower card...the more happy I become with my aging 4200. I pity the poor Nasdaq investor that buys into *EITHER* ATI or NVidia.
