This question has been asked numerous times before. I recommend doing a search and reading the threads.

Are you sure we shouldn't argue some more about which is better? I am so fond of that banter ![]()

C-Otto: you can't go wrong with either.
Wait a few days for the next price cuts. If you go for AMD, get a nForce 2 motherboard. Asus and Epox have good ones. If you go for Intel, get a 845PE or E7205 chipset aka Granite bay motherboard. Asus has good ones. |

other questions to ask yourself...
...will you overclock? Is it something that is of interest to you?
...Is hyperthreading important, if money is not? ...(if the above is applicable) are you builing the system now, or can you wait a little while while intel adds other HTT cpus? What spb said was important...regardless which cpu you choose, get a high-quality motherboard. A good computer starts with a solid foundation. |

Well, get both.
I have a 2.0 Ghz (o/c 2.4) P4 on my shuttle ss51G system and an Athlon XP 2400+ on my system with the Asus A7N8x dlx. ![]() |
