is this worth anything?

I was thinking of trying to sell my old PC.

What is a good asking price for it

It is a
Power spec

PII 400 MHZ
128 MB ram
40GB HD (Maxtor diamond)
8mb Video card
NO modem
NON Functioning CD-ROM 32x
15” monitor (KDS brand)

All about 4 yrs old.

Is this system worth selling? If so how should i unload it?

Any good use for it if I keep it?

Ps I modded the cases so it looks Wood Grain Thx to Contact paper

Your hard drive and memory are definately worth a little scratch, but I agree with backviet-use it as your file sharing computer, for Kazaa, DC, etc, or if you are at a school, run a UT server on it.

Half.com and ComputerGeeks have similar ones with 64 MB of Ram and 4-6 GB HD, no monitor but with CDROM for $70-$100

ok, so if keep it as a server what is a good NOS to put on it....

if i put Mandrake ( i already have an older version of this ) on it will i be able to srore and retrieve things from it from my windows PC. or would it be better to just leave WIN XP PRO on it and use file sharing. or is there soemthgig better i could use.

also what things could i use it for other than storing MP3's ? any way i can use it whth my new pc to help with Video editing.

Thanks,
Grape

PS i have a couple of smaller HD's i could put in it as well. any way of raid'ing them with out a raid card.

Tahnks

Grape

I have a machine with almost the exact same specs that I'm running Windows 2000 server on. It' s my mp3, file, ftp server for me and my friends.

I actually recently put a 200gb WD with 8mb cache in it to make it a real server. In this role, its speed is quite satisfactory.

You could also donate it to charity and write it off.

yeah i'm doing the same thing with mine.
dual p2-400. 60gb of space, 512mb of ram. using it as my ftp, mp3, Freelancer and file sharing server. Ironic thing is that i use that computer more than my two other faster computers. Haahaa
